1. What compelled you first start drawing and creating?

Firstly, I’ve liked drawing since an early age. I’ve always enjoyed making stuff too, be it decorating with stickers, glitter or making collages of my favourite stuff (mostly favourite tv shows and other media), cutting out and gluing onto paper, and recently, making digital collages/cut outs.

Also, like everybody else at school, I had art classes. All our art would be drawn in sketch books provided by the teacher, which she would then mark. Looking back at my arts and crafts book, I’m surprised I did quite well. I regret not having kept up my drawing from when I was 15 until when I started drawing again in 2014 (that’s 16 years!!)

2. Do you have any future plans for your artwork?

My plans are to continue drawing and improving. I’d love to be able to do digital art someday, but first I need to improve my traditional graphite drawing, then stepping up to traditionally inking and colouring.

3. What sort of media do you use to create your artwork? How long does it take you to complete a piece of artwork?

I usually use pencil, paper, ink outliners and markers/coloured pencils. Sometimes I’ll dabble with digital stuff, but its pretty basic. The duration depends on what the art work is. I mostly do sketches, which maybe take 20 minutes. Sometimes I’ll outline them straight away, but a lot of the time I’ll put the pencil drawing away and dig it out a while later to ink and colour. I try to scan all my pencil/ ink drawings too.

If its a digital piece, I do a little bit everyday (about half an hour a day, then again it depends how big it is.) Usually it can take me up to 1-2 weeks.

4. What inspired you to draw? Do you admire any other artists?

Many things actually. When I was a child, I was inspired by my favourite shows and comics, mostly Disney and French cartoons. I drew my favourite characters. More recently, I was inspired by my daughter when she turned 2 in 2014. She was always wanting me to draw her favourite cartoon characters, so I picked up from there. This inspired me to revisit some of my favourite characters I had drawn/written fanfics of, and it was around this time (towards the end of 2014), that I went back on to deviantart. I’m very glad I did!

There are a couple of artists I admire, such as Tragicfangirl, Nightriver16, Shadow12177 and Irenei, all on deviantart. I met Tragicfangirl and Nightriver16 when I went back onto deviantart, and I’m glad I did go back when I did, otherwise I never would have met these lovely talented people.

5. Do you have any tips for any aspiring artists – beyond the usual ‘practise daily’? (These tips don’t have to be art creation related.)

The only thing I will say is never give up what you enjoy doing. Continue drawing, even if you don’t think your drawing is good enough draw for yourself. And you will get better in time! Also, never let negative people bring you or your art down. Be positive and confident, and befriend other inspiring, talented artists who you can share stuff with and also learn from. I’ve picked up a few tips on improvement from my talented artist buddies.

6. What is your fondest artist memory? (eg – An art trade you were really proud of/pleased with, your first commission, etc)

There have been many with my artist buddies, but I guess my fondest memory is returning to deviantart and meeting my buddies Niky and Sandora, who like me were fans of Slappy the Dummy, I included both of them as characters in my story. That was a fun memory.

7. Anything else you would like to tell our readers?

Thank you for listening, and remember: never stop creating!

A few artsy pieces

I just wanted to share the recent artsy things that I’ve done.

A Ghostie for CrazyOATCfan on dA

A Blanky bust for Horrorlandcop74

Jenn, in the worlds most hideous dress, a redraw from 2003

Jenn, on a date with Felix, who belongs to DrPStripes

Kronch Bust – An OC of mine, I adopted from Thiccs on dA

And a Bust of Mandy, also belonging to DrPStripes on dA

In other DeviantArt related news, I have been really pushing to try and get my 10K pageviews on there. I feel a bit bad that I deactivated my old/most used account on there which was near the 100k pageviews marks and I am desperately trying to play ‘catch-up’ with myself. So, if you have a spare minute and are inclined to help someone out, please pay my page a visit?

As always, commnts on here are greatly appreciated too~

Prompt – Survival

Another prompt title from The Daily Post

Lately, I have been doing a bit more engaging with the Resident Evil fandom over on DeviantArt. This is mostly due to a couple of friends on the website opening up a Resident Evil Original Characters Jam – A collection of people drawing, writing and generally being creative with and for others in the Jam.

It started a bit before I gave birth and as such I wasn’t really in the mood to contribute; mostly due to feeling like a beached whale. Since settling into Motherhood and knowing what sort of time I do have available to me after various daily tasks I am happy to say I still have time to get some drawing done. As such, I can give back to my fellow zombie outbreak survivors in the form of a few headshots of characters involved with the Jam.

(Burke, ORLY, Blanky, Kiz, Kilgore and Shakahnna – For various people over on dA)

Its just been damned nice to be able to find my stride with drawing for others and (selfishly) myself again. I was worried about not having the time or the inclination to do any drawing once my child was here, and I am over the moon that I am able to get a few artsy things done. Especially for those friends that I rather neglected in the weeks before and after giving birth.
Actually, I am rather honoured to have some of these people as friends, as they’ve always been the understanding sort. Whenever I have needed a break from the internet they’ve been encouraging and supportive of that fact – which is great to know. It means they’ve always been there waiting with open arms when I’ve returned.
It’s an absolute pleasure to know people like that. Relaxed enough to understand that life happens beyond this here internet, but close enough to be friendly.

It’s people like that, that make life that little bit more survivable.

Seeing as I have more time, I shall try and update the blog more often. I have a couple of things I would like to say already.

Truth be told

Whenever it comes to something to fan girl over, I usually fall for the bad guy, or the guy that dies. Which tends to be the bad guy! It’s either that or the absolute hero, but that it another tale.

Over the weekend I had my sister visiting, which is always a guarentee for good and fun times. We revisited several things from our youth which brought back all sorts of memories and things that I really need to post about. As such, the first stop on this trip is non-other than one of the most highly rated sociopathic antagonists ever created.

I couldn’t find a picture of what I wanted him doing.

I remember having this huge thing for Wesker many, many years ago. I wrote many fanfictions with him in; with how his company sent him to work before his transformation into whatever he was turning into wasn’t complete yet. (This was before RE:CV was even out.) And how he was actually involved in RE:3 behind the scenes. It was a good heap of laughs.

I also had this running joke how my character representation at the time; Kaede, had her own “Pet Wesker” to assist her in her lab work with the Syphid Corporation, but his eye kept falling out. The Syphid Corportation was a group of friends who I played Phantasy Star Online with, and spoke with over MSN. We had all the making of being amazing, and I guess in our own way we were! It was quirky good fun times, and I think I still have a part of the second part of ‘Syphid Corps: The Anime, part 2.” on my PC somewhere, which I read over when I am feeling nostalgic.

Kaede was an assassin; but her true passion lay with creating monsters in a lab, so she turned to biological warfare when joining the Syphid Corportation. (Which was ran by Syphid, a small black cat with an unhealthy addiction to coffee.)

How Wesker really tied into it all, I don’t overly know! I just remember being a huge Resident Evil nut at the time and mostly over Wesker. Probably because he had that bad-ass, evil appeal to him which gets me every time.

I moved on; as I have tended to do in the past, but have since become friends with Shakahnna
who is still on Weskers case, so I am pleased that I still get to draw and work with Wesker from time to time, though not always in a way that he would like! His relationship with Shakahnna is not a “sunshine and lollipops” one. It’s just nice to see that someone out there is giving the guy some attention still!

Also playing him on Marvel vs Capcom 3 was just the most hilarious thing ever. Espeically playing on simple mode and spamming a certain special move over and over again!
Fun times!!
