This week’s Fangirl Feature is from Matriarch8
Hobby showcase! Share with us: Your favourite images
What games/systems are you most interested in/do you collect?
I collect 30k Word Bearers and 40k Imperial guard, I am mostly interested in Minis of AoS and 40k/30k as I do not have a lot of time to play. I did play a few games of 40k though before my hobby break that went okay.
Any specific armies?
Currently I do not have a specific army to collect but in the future I will expand upon my Word Bearers again.
What aspect of the hobby are you most interested in?
The painting is my favorite part of the hobby, closely followed by old Warhammer fantasy lore and 30k/40k lore.
What compelled you first start or restart the hobby?
The lore is what got me interested in the hobby. I started reading the Horus Heresy books and started tweeting a little bit about how cool the lore is where I shortly after came in contact with the #Warmongers community on Twitter and after a few months ordered my first miniatures.
Do you have any future plans for your hobby?
Yes, I do have a project planned. It is big for me although others might not see it that way. The project is to try my hand at a Stormcast Lord Aquilor again.
What sort of materials do you use to create your hobby? How long does it take you to complete a project?
I use mostly cheap brushes and home made sculpting tools. It usually takes me a few weeks to finish something because I work rather slow.
What inspires you to keep going? Do you admire any other hobbyists?
My break from the hobby has shown me that I have been doing some things wrong, mainly related to painting as I was never happy with what I did and a perfectionist. Now I see things differently, although still striving for my vision of a perfectly painted mini I see good in mistakes and will not give up improving to reach my goal.
What do you find most frustrating about the hobby?
When a miniature gets ruined by something very stupid I did and I cannot save it.
Do you have any tips for any aspiring hobbyists – beyond the usual ‘practise daily’?
Don’t let your goals blind you and see good in mistakes you made. Realising a mistake means you can improve on it with the next mini. Don’t dwell on anything too long as it can hold you back, I speak from experience.
What is your fondest hobby memory?
I met my partner due to this hobby.
Anything else you would like to tell our readers?
Don’t give up! There is no shame in mistakes.
Many thanks to Martriarch for taking the time to answer these questions for the Fangirl Feature this week.
